What is BoxMate all about?

The Team

We are a small, tight-knit team here at BoxMate and we are really proud of the personal approach we offer to our gym owners. We know how important it is to you that the system you chose to manage your gym runs smoothly and that you can reach out for support and with ideas that will get listened to and responded to quickly. That’s why we are always at the end of the phone to talk through any ideas you have, or to support you to make the system work how you need it to.

The Vision

We want to create a platform for coaches and members of all studio types from CrossFit, to Jiu-Jitsu, Strength and Conditioning and more where you can seamlessly provide workout details, track member progress and communicate easily. More than this, we partner with TeamUp to bring an all-in-one solution for your members to book classes and appointments and follow your programming and read your communications. With this integration we bring you easy reporting on your business vitals and data to help you manage your gym business effectively and easily.

Meet Danny

Founder and Development Director of BoxMate. With a love for both CrossFit and Jiu-Jitsu, Danny brings his passion for these disciplines into the core of BoxMate.

“Since our humble beginnings in 2015, I am proud to say we have now grown to share our platform with boxes around the UK and Europe and now as far as Vietnam, New Zealand and the US.

I am a huge lover of CrossFit and I know myself the importance of tracking my workouts and the buzz I get from improving on my performance, and that’s why I am so passionate about what we have here at BoxMate. For me, training has always been about the fun, the challenge and the genuine rush you get from testing your body’s physical limits. I wanted to create a system that encapsulates that concept. BoxMate makes tracking simple and accountable but also a shared experience that’s loads of fun too. It’s developed to become so much more than workout tracking, and now is a system helping gym owners manage their business and communicate easily with their coaches and members. Next steps for us are moving into different spaces and training types, with weightlifting, small group PT and Jiu-Jitsu being top of the list.

We are a tight-knit, UK based team here at BoxMate HQ and our ultimate goal has always been to enhance peoples’ training experience. Customer support has always been a number one priority for me. The feedback we have from the gyms we work with on our willingness to shape our platform, take new ideas on board and respond quickly to questions is what we thrive on. We are quite literally at the other end of the phone whenever you need us if you have an enquiry or an issue. We are always looking to improve our service and we get genuinely excited about new ideas for how you’d like to see the app working for your gym – so if you ever have an idea, hit us up'

Meet Gabriella, fondly known in the office as Gaby or Gabs. She’s the wife of Danny and the creative force behind BoxMate. With a background in English Teaching and Marketing, Gaby is all about bringing people together and helping them understand what BoxMate is all about. Through various community outreach projects Gaby is passionate about spreading the word and using the platform to help projects in the fitness community.

Meet George. George used to head up our support team and now has recently entered the world of code. If you’ve signed up for a website through BoxMate it will be George working his magic. Beyond his role helping Danny to develop and improve BoxMate, his warm personality is why George is still a core part of our support team - helping coaches and members get the very best out of the system.

Meet Andy. Andy joined the team remotely way back in the early days and is responsible for the keeping the infrastructure reliable and up-and-running. As a keen CrossFitter you’ll find Andy shifting weights at his local box when he’s not busy in the world of servers and coding!

A Little BoxMate History

From Danny's Bedroom to a Global Company!

  1. An Idea Is Formed

    In exchange for free membership at CrossFit Buxton, Danny builds a platform for members to book classes and log their scores to do away with the need for pens and paper.

  2. BoxMate is Born

    BoxMate is born. We brand as BoxMate and the first paying customer comes on-board, CrossFit Maxon. This is a huge moment for us!

  3. Introducing TeamUp

    We find that a lot of gyms are using TeamUp. We look into the system & realise it works very well with ours. We start to integrate with this platform and the all-in-one solution for booking and tracking comes together.

  4. 800 High Fives!

    We celebrate 850 high-fives on Instagram (we know, we know... it might sound small – but trust us it was HUGE for us back then!)

  5. 1 million High Fives!

    450, 000 records tracked, 1 million high 5s sent. We have 7600 members and 60 gyms in the UK and we are feeling PROUD!

  6. We go Global!

    Through word of mouth referrals, we move into different countries across Europe and onto serving gym owners as far as the U.S, New Zealand and Vietnam!

  7. Global Pandemic Survival

    Gaby joins the team full-time and through the Covid pandemic we supported our gym owners to deliver training online & keep strong communication lines with their members with zoom classes and more.

  8. First Employee Outside our Family

    Gaby & Danny up to now had been a husband and wife team & we realised it was time to take on our first member of staff to help keep our customers supported!

  9. Sponsored the first UK CrossFit Summit

    We were very proud to sponsor and help the first UK CrossFit gathering take place in Wales for an epic weekend of fun, learning and some wave running!

  10. Second Employee

    BoxMate keeps growing, and so does our team! Our second full time member of staff, Lainey joins the ranks to head up Customer Success.

  11. Complete Platform Rebuild

    After a very long year of hard work we released the brand new members app and admin area with loads of new gym management and engagement features.

  12. BoxMate Branches out to Jiu-Jitsu

    Realising the platform is now supporting so many more gym types beyond CrossFit and Functional Fitness, the new special Jiu Jitsu app is under development.

  13. Watch this Space!

    We have come a long way in the last 8 years and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! We now support over 40,000 members across over 300 facilities worldwide. We will be working as hard as ever to bring you guys more features and an even better experience!
